MA and PhD

Saybrook University is committed to assisting students throughout the admissions process. We emphasize:

  • Academic history and professional experience
  • Compatible background and interests with the offerings at Saybrook, including a student’s ability to work well in a distance-education format
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and writing skills
  • Potential for scholarly and practitioner work
  • Personal motivation and readiness for graduate level work.

The admissions process is designed to ensure a good match between the student and Saybrook University, as determined by the Faculty Admission Committees who select individuals most likely to succeed in graduate study at Saybrook. Applications are considered complete only after all application materials have been received by the Saybrook Admissions Office. 

Application requirements for the MA or PhD in Human Science, Organizational Systems, Psychology include the following:

  • Submission of the online application, found on the Saybrook University website: www.saybrook.edu.
  • Application fee 
  • Academic writing sample.
  • Personal statement. Applicants for either the MA or PhD Psychology Jungian Studies specialization should incorporate in their personal essay information about their background and intention in Jungian Studies.
  • Official (sealed) transcripts from all previously attended post-secondary institutions. All MA applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited institution. All PhD applicants must have bachelor’s and master’s degrees from regionally accredited institutions. The minimum expected grade point average (GPA) requirement is 3.0 from the last degree-granting institution, though exceptions may be made. A prospective student wishing to pursue the doctoral degree, but who lacks a master’s degree must apply to one of College’s MA programs, and upon graduating may then apply to the PhD program. A maximum of 31 of the College’s master’s degree credits can be transferred toward the PhD in the same discipline.
  • Two letters of recommendation. It is preferred that one letter be an academic reference.
  • Personal resume or curriculum vitae.
